From Brighton in the U.K. comes Tribe of Ghosts with the release of a new single and music video, titled “False Gods.” Showcasing the quartet’s furious mix of saccharine pop melodies with the abrasive textures of industrialized post-metal, the song presents the band’s exploration of rituals and the conspiratorial mindset of the ruling class, intended to simultaneously disturb and seduce; “We wanted to play on the idea that not only do a ruling class acquire suffering for power, but they are aroused by it,” vocalist Beccy Blaker explains, the use of enticing pop song structures underscoring raving electronics and sludgy distortions giving voice to the listener’s feelings of rage and powerlessness against the political elite while wrestling with their own morality. The accompanying video, directed by Theodore Swaddling, supplements these themes, wrought with bloody and tortuorus imagery in which the band itself enacts secret rituals outside of the main performance.

“False Gods” was released on November 20 and is available digitally via Bandcamp; the single marks Tribe of Ghosts’ third release of 2023, following “Hive” in July and “Sunburner (Deny the Rot)” in April. Furthermore, December will see Tribe of Ghosts serving as the support act for URNE and Mountain Caller on the A Feast on Sorrow Tour of the U.K.; the tour runs from December 3-16, with stops including Leeds, Glasgow, Newcastle, Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, and London.
