Making its premiere on Ghost Cult Magazine today is the video for “The Repetition,” the new single from U.K. industrial/metal duo Omnibael. Wrought with distorted and desolate imagery interspersed with the ominous harbinger of a ticking clock in disarray and snippets of the band in performance, the video produces an apocalypse ambience appropriate to the band’s sonic aesthetic. “The Repetition” is the latest single to precede the forthcoming Rain Soaks the Earth Where They Lie, which marks Omnibael’s first proper full-length album after 2020’s ‘OM’ EP and the 2021 split album with noise act Lip Critic, all following the band’s formation in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic. Explaining that “The noise came before the identity, before any kind of cohesion or coherence,” the band adopts an anonymous approach to its imagery, focusing on the invisibility of the band members so as not to allow image to distract from the sound; “We were listening to The Body, White Suns, Show Me The Body, Uniform, Black Dice, Sightings, Kevin Richard Martin and Full of Hell,” the band explains, “our friends’ music too – Rejection Ops, Territorial Gobbing,” with publications like Side-Line drawing comparisons to the likes of early Godflesh, MINISTRY, Cop Shoot Cop, and Unsane. Rain Soaks the Earth Where They Lie is due for release in digital and cassette formats on February 4 via Cruel Nature Recordings, with pre-orders available via Bandcamp.
