Jah Wobble teams with U.K. Chinese theatre for fusion projectJah Wobble, best known as the bassist of the legendary post-punk band Public Image Ltd and the industrial supergroup The Damage Manual, has joined forces with the Pagoda Chinese Youth Orchestra to create “Jasmine Flower Fusion,” an unprecedented mix of Chinese folk song and grime. Now, teamed up with the Liverpool Signing Choir, the fusion project will host a performance on July 12 at the Pagoda Arts Centre in Liverpool, fusing reggae with the Chinese Dub style. Artistic Director of the Pagoda Arts Centre Zi Lan Liao states, “Everyone at Pagoda Arts is very excited about this project and looking forward to bringing the orchestra into a new musical phrase.” Neil Spencer of the Observer comments, “The music is of the here and now, underpinned by Wobble’s agile, reggaematic pulse. His prolific, varied output has made him a hard man to place, but here the punk wars survivor has produced something special.” The performance will be proceeded by a workshop, running from 2:00-3:00 p.m., inviting the public to join in the creation of Chinese music.
