The Berlin/Vienna quartet of 808, Helen Henfling, Jasmin Rilke, and Patrick Wagner – collectively known as Gewalt – has unleashed a new single. Addressing the paradoxical and dysfunctional nature of modern times, the two songs of “Trans” and “Monika in Scherben” see Gewalt following up on the 2021 Paradies debut with an even more accessible blend of shoegazing post-punk and industrialized rock & roll; Wagner further states, “We thought Orwell wanted to warn us writing 1984, but it turned out that society took it as a blueprint.” The single is available now as a physical-only 7-inch vinyl via the band’s webstore and the Clouds Hill webstore. This marks the first offering from the group’s forthcoming sophomore album, titled Doppeldenk, which will further explore topics of duality and dualism in modern society. Following a series of shorter EPs and standalone singles, Gewalt unveiled Paradies as a double-album on November 5, 2021.
