It’s been over 25 years since the onset of Judgment Day, when Skynet launched a full-scale nuclear assault on humanity, plunging the Earth in a dark era overrun by soulless killing machines. Such is the sci-fi backdrop of the latest video and single from Ukrainian electro/industrial act BlazerJacket, with “Judgment Day” taken from the band’s latest EP, The Second; serving as a companion to 2020’s The First, the two EPs showcase the individual songwriting talents of the band members, with the previous EP written entirely by Denis Cherryman, while the five tracks on The Second were composed, mixed, and mastered by Hybri.Mod. The thematic connections are driven further by The First concluding with “Skynet,” while The Second ends with “Judgment Day,” the video helmed by Cherryman comprised of footage from Terminator 2: Judgment Day.
The Second was released on November 10 as a name-your-price item on Bandcamp, with the preceding singles – “Project 2501,” “DedSec,” and “Dark Side” – remastered for the EP; in contrast to The First, the narrative of The Second is more a loosely conceptual presentation, with dialogue samples from Star Wars, Ghost in the Shell, Watch Dogs, and of course, Terminator 2. Providing guitars on the EP is deathpill grrrl from Ukrainian hardcore punk act Death Pill.
