Episode 8: “A Transformative Digression with Dan Barrett (Venal Flesh/Worms of the Earth)”
Recorded: Saturday, November 7, 2015…
The bitter brothers John Galope and Ilker Yücel are blessed with the presence of special guest Dan Barrett, the mastermind fronting terror/EBM band Venal Flesh and industrial/dark ambient project Worms of the Earth, discussing and digressing on matters of musical importance – namely the literary and occult inspirations behind Barrett’s musical projects, the artistic pursuits behind different monikers (specifically touching on the recent reissue of Aeshtetic Perfection side project Necessary Response), as well as the visual aesthetics employed by laptop performers in the live setting, hopes for the resurgence of terror/EBM and power noise, and the creative vacuum necessary for the younger generation to take up the mantle and take music in new and exciting directions. Of course, no discussion with Barrett would be complete without delving into a mutual love for The Transformers, specifically addressing the excessive violence and darkness of the 1986 animated movie, the franchise’s comic book counterparts, and just how much of a pussy Rodimus Prime really was.
“Digressions” theme song written and produced by White Shadow.
