Wire streams upcoming self-titled album, announce festival datesPost-punk/rock band Wire has announced the release of its upcoming self-titled album on Pinkflag, the band’s fourteenth overall, set to hit US stores on April 21. To preview the album, NPR Music will be streaming Wire via the station’s “First Listen” website; pre-orders for the album are available via Amazon, iTunes, and the Pinkflag online store. According to an interview with singer/guitarist Colin Newman conducted in 2013, he would “still like to achieve recognition from the 99.9% of the world that remains oblivious to Wire.” He continues, “The point where our personal narratives meet is all about change – moving on and keeping it interesting for ourselves. We’re in it for the long haul and this is a one-way trip.”
In addition, the band will be performing on the upcoming DRILL festival taking place in Chicago on June 11-13. Named for the band’s song of the same name, the festival has been featured in London, Seattle, Brighton, and Lexington, with each event featuring unique collaborations; Chicago will include jazz musician Ken Vandermark, Grammy Award winning artist St. Vincent, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, and others.
