Wax Trax! Records documentary currently in productionWhile the long awaited Wax Trax! Records Retrospectacle: 33 1/3 Year Anniversary concert DVD that was promised to fans in 2011 still isn’t quite ready for release, there is still good news for fans of the legendary label. Julia Nash, daughter of co-founder Jim Nash, explains a documentary chronicling the “rise and fall” of the prominent Chicago industrial label is currently in the works. The DVD is being produced by Factory 25, the company behind the 2009 documentary You Weren’t There: A History of Chicago Punk 1977-1984. “There IS one very positive thing that has come out of waiting. We have taken this ‘down time’ to work on a detailed look at the origins of the store and label, as well as my dad, Dannie, and their road from young music obsessed gay hillbillies, to the taste makers who gave a voice to many of us that just didn’t quite fit in. It will also cover the bankruptcy as well as what led to the demise.” Nash revealed that the documentary will feature various artist and employee interviews, home video clips, and never-before-seen footage from the Wax Trax! vaults. Eventually, fans will be asked for submissions for possible inclusion in the DVD.
Wax Trax! Records was founded by Nash and Flesher in Chicago in 1978 after selling the original shop in Denver, Colorado. The store would become a major name in underground music, now the legendary home to such acts as Ministry, Front 242, KMFDM, and My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult to name but a few.
