Ashton Nyte, front man of goth/rock band The Awakening, has premiered on Auxiliary Magazine a new music video for his song “Dressing Like You.” This is the first track from Nyte’s upcoming release, Some Kind of Satellite, marking a return for Nyte to his dark roots after forays into dark folk/alt. country with The Valley and his Afrikaans language album Moederland. Heralded by Cosmopolitan as “Johannesburg’s Bowie,” Nyte describes the album as “poetry for the broken hearted… who still like to dance from time to time.” Nyte first came to recognition in 1997 for his dark interpretation of Simon & Garfunkel’s “The Sound of Silence,” going on to release eight albums with The Awakening, as well as six critically acclaimed solo albums. He has also performed in numerous theatrical productions and has appeared at philanthropic events such as Rock Against Rape.
Some Kind of Satellite, released on March 3, features 10 tracks that Nyte describes simply as “sad songs for melancholy people.” The album can be purchased through Nyte’s own website, with CD editions available in digipak, and digital editions featuring two bonus tracks.
