Mortiis provides soundtrack to horror shortNorwegian shock/horror director Reinert Kiil has unveiled the first installment of a short film trilogy, titled Vardøger, featuring industrial/rock act Mortiis’ “Geisteskrank.” Of the band’s association with Kiil, Mortiis states, “We leaped at the opportunity to provide the soundtrack to what is essentially a good old bashing.” He goes on to say, “The result is sleazy, strange, disturbing, and extremely violent,” referring to the music as “sonically fused with a glimpse of his soul – or crazed mind or whatever it might be – and it is complete, a sordid success.” Vardøger marks Kiil’s first musical collaboration, following his career as Norway’s only Grindhouse movie maker.
“Geisteskrank” was recorded during the same sessions as the band’s latest album, The Great Deceiver; the album has already yielded three graphically intense videos for “Doppelganger,” “The Shining Lamp of God,” and “Demons are Back.” The Great Deceiver was released via Mortiis’ own Omnipresence Productions on March 4, while Vardøger debuted on Decibel Magazine‘s website at 11:00am EDT.
