Moog Music has announced the release of the 3 Impressions EP, produced by M. Gedders Gengras, in conjunction with the discontinuation of two MoogerFooger analog effects units – the MF-105M MIDI MuRF and the MF-107 FreqBox – both of which are featured heavily on the EP. The EP was produced as a practical application of the prestigious company’s analog electronics and process-based sound design, including the MoogerFooger effects as well as Moog’s Sub Phatty synthesizer.
The MF-107 FreqBox was the first stomp box to be produced by Moog Music following the death of founder and synthesis pioneer Bob Moog, having first began production in 2007, with the MF-105M MIDI MuRF following two years later. Moog Music plans to continue building a limited quantity of the units at the company factory in Asheville, ceasing production once parts and materials run out. Both units, along with various other MoogerFooger units, have been famously used by artists as diverse as Arcade Fire, John Frusciante, and the Pixies’ Joey Santiago.
Gengras’ 2012 collaboration with The Congos and Sun Araw (one of numerous artists featured on the soundtrack to popular video game Hotline Miami), titled Icon Give Thank, reached the number seven position on Billboard‘s Top World Albums chart.
