Legendary post-punk band Killing Joke has unveiled a new lyric video for the song “I Am the Virus,” off of the upcoming sixteenth album Pylon. The album is due to be released on October 23 via Spinefarm Records, and marks the third consecutive album featuring the original lineup of Jaz Coleman, Kevin “Geordie” Walker, Martin “Youth” Glover, and “Big Paul” Ferguson. Produced by Killing Joke and Tom Dalgety in Prague and the UK, and eaturing 15 new songs and an additional dub remix, Pylon will also feature artwork by designer Mike Coles, who first collaborated with the band on the very first album in 1980. Of the album, Coleman states, “This record really showcases the power of Killing Joke; I remember we once jammed with German outfit Can, and I don’t remember hearing Can.” In addition, Youth says of Pylon, “Heavy and uncompromising, bleak dystopian lyrics, as well as some visionary celebration… lots of black pain emotion.”
While often categorized as post-punk, Killing Joke’s style has incorporated and influenced many genres over the past 35 years; “To be honest, we remain genre blind so our music will always cover a vast spectrum of influences, from disco right through to heavy metal and beyond,” states Youth. On that point, Coleman adds, “Difficult, perverse, and wilfully unpredictable, Killing Joke continue to be a group that actually stands for something.”
Pylon will be released in deluxe double-CD and double colored vinyl formats, each version featuring additional tracks; the album is now available for pre-order via the Killing Joke website, with audio purchases from Pledge to receive “I Am the Virus” as an instant download. Coinciding with the album’s release, Killing Joke will headline a UK tour lasting 10 dates, beginning in Cardiff on October 25 and concluding at London’s Roundhouse on November 6, with a more extensive touring schedule promised to follow. Tour dates can be viewed on the band’s website.
