Kate Bush announces first live shows since 1979After an over 35 year absence, legendary art rock performer Kate Bush has announced a string of 15 live dates in London this August through September, titled Before the Dawn, exclusively at the Eventim Apollo in Hammersmith. Ticket sales will begin on March 28 through select vendors listed on the artist’s website, with a limit of four tickets per buyer for the entire tour. Dame Bush has only toured once before, recalling that afterwards “I felt a terrific need to retreat as a person, because I felt that my sexuality – which in a way I hadn’t really had a chance to explore myself – was being given to the world in a way which I found impersonal.” Bush has made rare live appearances since, but never again in full tour format until now; this string of performances also marks Bush’s first general live performance in 12 years.
Bush’s last album, 50 Words for Snow debuted in 2011. Her accolades include being the first woman to have a UK Chart number one with a self-written song, holding 25 UK Top 40 singles, three Grammy nominations, and an appointment of Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire under Queen Elizabeth II in 2013*. According to press magnate The Daily Mash, Bush has given fans a preview of what to expect from her new tour: “I’m an obsessive artist so I can spend months hunched over a piano in the dark, stopping only to wolf down a Monster Munch sandwich and a two litre bottle of homemade wine. The point is, I look like Lemmy [of Motörhead] now. It took a bit of getting used to, but now I prefer it. Anyway, I’ve written 52 songs about butterflies which I think you’re going to enjoy.”
