California electro/rock band Julien-K has completed an IndieGoGo campaign for the group’s third album, the first of a two-part concept record, titled California Noir, Chapter One: Analog Beaches & Digital Cities. The campaign reached its initial goal of $10,000 within the first 10 hours of the campaign, ultimately receiving contributions that equaled nearly 286% of the band’s goal.
Throughout the campaign, the band communicated with fans via a series of video updates, including a candid interview in which fan questions were addressed. “We’ve completely blown past our greatest expectations,” front man Ryan Shuck emotionally states in the most recent video update; “I’m just blown away, just completely humbled by how much you guys still believe in our music and I’m really grateful.” He goes onto say, “California Noir coming next month, maybe in a couple of weeks.”
Chapter One: Analog Beaches & Digital Cities follows the California Noir EP, which featured three songs from the album, including the title track; the EP was featured in the #6 position on ReGen‘s Top 10 EPs of 2014.
Julien-K began in 2003 as a side project for Shuck and fellow Orgy guitarist Amir Derakh, the band becoming their primary outlet upon Orgy’s dissolution in 2005 (vocalist Jay Gordon would reform Orgy with a new lineup in 2012). The band released its debut album Death to Analog in 2009, with We’re Here With You following in 2012. Additionally, Julien-K also composed and recorded the score to independent movie Matt’s Chance in 2013, and has had music featured in numerous movies and video games.
In contrast, Orgy launched an IndieGoGo campaign in 2013 to the band’s then upcoming EP, earning less than $9,000 of its $100,000 goal.
