Former Angels of Light bassist releases debut full-length albumDana Schechter, formerly the bassist for Michael Gira’s Angels of Light, will be releasing the debut full-length album for her latest outlet, Insect Ark. Titled Portal/Well, the instrumental album is stated to explore themes of corruption of the natural world and facing oblivion, following a dark narrative in an experimental direction similar to his previous group. The album follows Insect Ark’s 2012 Collapsar/Piledriver 7-inch single and the 2013 EP Long Arms, slated for release in CD format in June via Autumnsongs Records. Schechter wrote, recorded, and produced Portal/Well on her own in her Brooklyn studio, with drummer Ashley Spungin – formerly of Portland based band Taurus – joining in 2015 as a secondary live member, with plans to begin recording and touring in Spring of this year.
Prior to Insect Ark, Schechter had during her time with Angels of Light also founded Bee and Flower, whose live incarnation included members of Angels of Light, Iggy Pop, Swans, and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds.
