Combichrist has signed on to Max & Iggor Cavalera’s Return to Roots tour. The Norwegian/American aggrotech/metal group will be joined by Allegaeon, All Hail The Yeti, and Oni, in support of the tour celebrating the twentieth anniversary of Sepultura’s watershed album Roots. The Black Dahlia Murder will also play select dates. The brothers Cavalera will perform the Roots album in its entirety nightly. Combichrist founder and frontman Andy LaPlegua states that he “can’t express how stoked I am about this tour,” explaining that Roots “changed everything for me when it came to music.”
Combichrist is getting back to its own roots with the eighth studio album, This Is Where Death Begins, which was released in June on Out of Line Music. When describing the album, LaPlegua comments, “I finally feel like we came full circle, considering we’re all from the punk rock, hardcore, and metal backgrounds,” adding that “Every style of music that I have done through the last 25 years has some kind of presence on this album.” The 15 track release was produced by Oumi Kapila (Filter) and LaPlegua, mastered by the legendary Vlado Meller (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Slipknot), and features guest vocalists Chris Motionless (Motionless in White) and Ariel Levitan (MXMS).
The Return to Roots tour kicks off September 12 in Las Vegas. Combichrist will also appear at Knotfest on September 25. This Is Where Death Begins is available now in multiple formats including a deluxe double CD and limited edition box set with an exclusive performance DVD from Germany’s 2015 Summer Breeze Festival.
