Bill Rieflin joins R.E.M.'s Peter Buck in new supergroupPercussionist Bill Rieflin is joining former R.E.M. guitarist Peter Buck and Corin Tucker of Sleater-Kinney in a new supergroup, Super-Earth. The band also features Kurt Bloch (ex-Fastbacks) and Scott McCaughey (Young Fresh Fellows), and has thus far only appeaared live opening for Buck’s solo performances at Secret Society Ballroom in Portland, OR. Rieflin – long associated with such industrial groups as MINISTRY, Pigface, KMFDM, and Swans – became the fulltime touring drummer and auxiliary member for R.E.M. in 2004, following the departure of founding member Bill Berry, while McCaughey has contributed to R.E.M. recordings and co-founded pop collectice The Minus 5 with Buck in 1993.
In addition to his work as a prominent session and live musician, Rieflin is the founder of independent label First World Music, and is currently an official member of progressive/experimental rock group King Crimson.
