Progressive/metal artist Ayreon will be staging a theatrical production of his 2004 album The Human Equation in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, for four dates in September at the Nieuwe Luxor theater. Produced in association with the Shadow Freaks theater production company, The Theater Equation features many of the album’s original musicians and vocalists reprising their respective characters, including James LaBrie (Dream Theater), Marcela Bovio (Stream of Passion), Magnus Ekwall (The Quill), Eric Clayton (Saviour Machine), and Irene Jansen. Produced and directed by Yvette Boertje with music directed and arrange by Joost van den Broek, the production will feature stage design, costumes, and an Epic Rock Choir assembled especially for the show.
Ayreon’s sixth album, The Human Equation details the story of a comatose man battling frightening manifestations of his emotions in a bizarre world constructed within his own mind. Ayreon front man Arjen Anthony Lucassen will be serving as a special advisor, but will not perform in the actual show, nor will original album collaborators Devin Townsend (Strapping Young Lad, Front Line Assembly) and Mikael Åkerfeldt (Opeth).
Three of the four planned shows have already sold out, with tickets for the fourth available via The Theater Equation website.
