Atlanta, GA, The Masquerade 12/13/2011

 

After a month of journeying around the nation, electronic music legends VNV Nation and German electro/dance duo Straftanz brought the first leg of their American tour to the capital of the South – Atlanta, GA – at the renowned Masquerade. Both VNV and Straftanz had new albums to contribute, which meant plenty of new content for the audience to enjoy, and the bands certainly weren’t going to keep everyone waiting for it.

Philadelphia, PA, Trocadero Theatre 12/10/2011

 

On a cold December night on the edge of Philadelphia’s Chinatown, a line of people – dressed mostly in black – was stretched around the block as they filed slowly into the newly renovated Trocadero Theatre. Shivering though they were, spirits were high. For some, it was their first chance to see their musical heroes VNV Nation in concert; other diehard fans never miss the founders of futurepop when they pass through town. In support of 2011’s masterful Automatic release, VNV Nation set out on a crusade of over 80 cities with Germany’s Straftanz across North America and Europe, a tour that spanned the end of one year and start of another.

The 9:30 Club stands as the Washington Metropolitan area’s longest standing and more diverse venues. Bands and artists from virtually every genre across the board have performed here, attracting crowds from all scenes and walks of life. As regular guests and champions of the underground electro scene, VNV Nation stood poised to unleash another tour de force performance on the Automatic Tour with relative newcomers Straftanz. To look at the audience, it was a decisively mixed bag full of longtime fans, newbie hipsters, and curiosity seekers, all awaiting what promised to be a powerful helping of electronic melody and energy.
